Our Wines

Coliban Valley WinesFruit grown in the Coliban Valley vineyard is hand picked and hand plunged in small batches to produce elegant fruit driven red wines reflective of the season and of the Heathcote wine region. The standard range of wines are aged for 12 months in oak barriques, predominantly French with some American. The Reserve Shiraz is aged in 100% French oak for 2 years. Rosé is produced each year in a dry style to be enjoyed chilled over the summer months.In 2010 a sparkling Rosé has been added to our range of wines.

All wines are estate grown, produced and bottled using traditional methods. The first release was the 2001 Cabernet Merlot which received several bronze medals. The 2002 Cabernet Merlot was awarded a gold medal and the Frangos & Frangos Trophy for “The best Cabernet or Cabernet blend” at the 2003 Daylesford Wine Show. The Coliban Valley 2004 Shiraz was awarded a gold medal and the trophy for the “best wine in the show” amongst a line up of 70 local wines judged by John Ellis at the Kyneton Show. In James Halliday 2007 Australian Wine Companion Coliban Valley winery was given a 5-star rating and listed amongst the best of the Heathcote wineries.

Being a small producer of stunning Heathcote wines they sell out quickly. In 2007 the crop was so small due to late spring frosts, that only one wine was made. It is a Shiraz Cabernet (Approx. 80%/20%) blend. The 2008 range of wines are dense and full flavoured but the Shiraz and Merlot are sold out. The 2009 vintage is just being released in November 2011- another stunning vintage with the Shiraz taking out a Gold Medal at the 2011 Daylesford wine show (click here to download ORDER FORM).

2007 Shiraz Cabernet
Good ruby colour, deep spice flavours of cloves and black pepper, mocha-coffee notes, a long palate with firm but pleasant tannins ending in lifted berry flavours. Enjoy from now until 2016.
14.5% alcohol
 
2008 Cabernet sauvignon 
A deep purple-red colour, aromas of fully ripe Cabernet with succulent cassis , blackberry and spice, a medium bodied palate with good lingering fine fruit tannins, sensitive oak. Enjoy from now until 2018.

2009 Merlot 
A deep ruby colour, aromas of plum, earthy, mulberry, a medium bodied palate with lovely soft fruit tannins and spicy plum, a good food wine. Enjoy from now until 2015.
12.5% alcohol
 
2009 Shiraz
A dense purple red colour, aromas of dark fruits, spice and coffee, full bodied, smooth and concentrated , well integrated oak and good complexity. Enjoy from now until 2018.
14% alcohol

2010 Rosé 
Made by fermenting Cabernet and Shiraz grapes without the skins in a dry style, good salmon pink colour, quite intense savoury, spicy fruit, has excellent length with subtle oak. Serve chilled.
13.5% alcohol
 
2010 Sparkling Brut Rosé 
Made in the same style as the table wine from Cabernet and Shiraz and then bottle fermented in the traditional method to produce a very elegant full-flavoured refreshing sparkling wine.
